Fall is upon us, and we have got our section’s 2017-2018 program off to a good start. We held our first luncheon meeting of the season on September 27th with Richard Spears, Managing Director of Spears & Associates, presenting on the current state of the oilfield equipment and service market. Mr. Spears gave an informative and engaging talk; we have posted his presentation on SPEMC’s website. I’d like to thank Mr. Spears for his time and for giving a very interesting presentation. We had 58 attendees at the meeting, including a few people from out of town.
SPEMC’s annual Fall Roundup Golf Tournament was held on September 8th; Nathan Nitchals with MS Energy Services did a good job organizing the tournament. Thanks to Nathan and to everyone that participated. Our annual Sporting Clays Classic tournament will be held Friday, October 6th at Longshot Ranch by Skiatook. As I mentioned last month, Mark Carr has been organizing this tournament for 22 years, and he will be stepping aside after this year’s tournament. Let’s all make sure to express our gratitude for Mark’s hard work all these years.
Our next luncheon meeting will be held October 25th at the Summit Club. Chad Roller from Mid-Con Energy will be presenting. Please make sure to register in advance. The Summit Club needs an accurate headcount to prepare the proper amount of food and to have enough tables and chairs set. We can still take cash or check payment at the door, but it is important to register ahead of time.
As most of you are aware, our section is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and we will be holding a celebration on the evening of October 26th at the Gilcrease Museum. Tickets are $25 and they are on sale until October 18th. Featured speakers at the event will include Janet Judah (2017 SPE President), Ralph Veatch (author, hydraulic fracturing pioneer, SPE Legion of Honor member and longtime SPEMC member), and Randy Foutch (Chairman & CEO of Laredo Petroleum). Buck Walsh is chairing the committee that has planned this event. I am very grateful to Buck and his fellow committee members for all the work that they have put into our 100th anniversary celebration. For those of you going to ATCE in San Antonio this year, there will be a reception commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Mid-Continent Section; make sure to attend.
I am looking forward to everything that is going on with our section in the next month.
