Friends, Romans, Countrymen! Please Read This Newsletter!

September has flown by and the section has hosted several activities: a YP happy hour, the annual golf tournament, and our first luncheon with over ninety of you in attendance.

Thank you for supporting our section and making these activities beneficial for all. Also, thanks to Charley Mathis and everyone else who volunteered their time, talents, and energy to make the golf tournament a success.

As those of you who attended the luncheon know, our speaker was SPE distinguished lecturer (DL) Kevin Fisher. He spoke to us about things to consider when designing a completion in a horizontal well. The slides are now posted on the section website if you missed his talk or want to refer back to them. I also encourage you to check out the main SPE DL website: and do two things:

  1. If you attended Kevin’s talk please complete the Section DL Evaluation: This gives our section a chance to win up to $1500. In addition, I’m confident your feedback will be an encouragement to Kevin, and will let SPE know the information he presented is valuable to you. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete (you will need your SPE member number). After you look up your number, please consider renewing your annual membership, or applying for a dues waiver if you find yourself unemployed (aka “forcibly liberated”).
  2. Now back to the DL website. Please take a few minutes to peruse this site as it is a treasure trove of information with speaker bio’s and slide decks from previous year’s talks that can be downloaded for free.

I leave you for now with a reminder to sign up for the 21st annual sporting clay tournament on October 21, 2016. I hope you can make it, and please be sure to thank Mark Carr for organizing this event.

I hope you're all enjoying this fine fall weather.
