We had a fantastic start to the 2010-2011 year for the Mid-Continent Section
of SPE.The 2010 Fall Roundup Golf Tournament held on August 23rd was a huge success.

our Program Chair, is doing an excellent job lining up informative speakers on
a broad range of topics for our luncheons.The two speakers we had in September
were terrific, and you won't want to miss the speakers lined up for October. Dr.
John Lee of Texas A&M University will be speaking on "A Better Way to
Forecast Production in Unconventional Gas Reservoirs" on October 7th.Then
on October 21st, Dan Themig of Packers Plus Energy Services will be speaking on
"Good Fracturing Practices and Multi-Stage Fracturing System Solutions".

At our first luncheon
held on September 15th, we announced that the 17th SPE Improved Oil Recovery Symposium,
sponsored by our Mid-Continent Section last April, raised $200,000. Predominately,
these funds will be distributed in scholarships over the next two years.This year,
our section has already pledged to give out $93,000 to 31 students! A gigantic
"thank you" goes out to Dwight Rychel who was the IOR Chairman for this
In addition to the October luncheons, the 15th Annual Sporting Clays
Classic will be held on October 22nd at Longshot Ranch in Skiatook. Registration
deadline is October 15th. For those of you who are riflemen, you can't miss this
shooting Classic or the raffle for two guns. A "thank you" goes out
to Mark Carr who is coordinating this annual Sporting Clays Classic. See our website

Finally, I want to thank those
individuals who responded to my last month's Gavel which called for volunteers
in three Committees. Due to the response, those positions were filled quickly.
Our Section is very fortunate to have so many who give of their time to make the
SPE Mid-Continent Section a strong and thriving organization.
