Begin at the beginning, the King said,
gravely, and go till you come to the end; then stop.

My
time as a Mid-Continent SPE officer has come to an end, so Ill leave you
with a final thought or two. I believe the most important goal for the Mid-Continent
Section is to give back to our community and the local petroleum industry professionals.
In that vein:
- Our 90 for 90 campaign, SPE made thirty
$3000 scholarships available to those students majoring in the sciences.
- SPE
members donated their time by volunteering at public schools through events like
the Tulsa Engineering Challenge that seeks to educate students in fourth through
eighth grades about various engineering professions.
- Luncheon meetings
focusing on new technologies and methodologies dominated our continuing education
program.
- SPEs redesigned webpage, www.spemc.org, features upcoming
luncheon and event announcements, scholarship information, past luncheon PowerPoint
presentations, and more.
The 90th Anniversary Celebration was a great
way to end the SPE year. Being Section #1, is a great honor. The Mid-Continent
Section of SPE has much to be proud of; not the least of which are the many volunteers
that contributed their time to our section:
- Thank you to Bill Lawson
for the hundreds of hours spent organizing, planning, and directing the 16th SPE/DOE
Improved Oil Recovery Symposium. Proceeds from this event will go toward our scholarship
fund.
- Thank you to Jonathan Vacca and Bill Belden for making the 90th
Anniversary Celebration an event we will all remember.
- Thank you to Hap
Pinkerton and the Young Professional Group officers and members for energizing
this new arm of SPE.
- Thank you to Greta Creekmore and Kristi Lovendahl
for their work on the newsletter and website.
- Thank you to Bob Beck, Fall
Roundup Chairman, and Mark Carr, Sporting Clays Chairman for organizing and running
great tournaments and most importantly scholar ship fundraisers for the section.

- Thank you to the current officers, directors,
and subcommittee chairs for taking time out of their busy schedules to help lead
the Mid-Continent Section.
Next year promises to be a great year as
Buck Walsh will assume the role of Chairman in June.
