Last month I wrote this column on Halloween and mentioned that the neighbors had something “special” rigged up. If any of you are curious, after dark, a large fire pit was revealed which they used for the trick-or-treaters to roast marshmallows and make s’mores with. It was quite popular and was unusual for Halloween which made it fun for everyone.
So, what was the section up to last month? Steve Tipton, your scholarship chair and Mike Mabry, your treasurer, were busy writing letters to universities and sending scholarship checks out on behalf of the 31 students who were selected earlier this year. Each student was awarded $2,000 for the fall semester and will be awarded an additional $2,000 in the spring, subject to academic performance.
It was good to see many of you at the luncheon on November 16th when Patrick Hayes presented some key learnings from running chemical tracers. The Exploration Gala that was planned for November with our student chapters has been deferred until sometime next spring – please watch for announcements about it in a few months and make plans to attend and get to know more of our student members.
As of now, we have no luncheons planned in December, but several events are planned for 2017 including the student event mentioned above, our section’s 100 year celebration, luncheons, etc. As 2016 draws to a close, please take a few minutes and renew your SPE membership for 2017.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Until next year,
